Big Game on the Line
ODDS: | Tuck By 1 Goal |
OVER/UNDER: | 5 Goals |
The Nordiques & Tuck both have something on the line tonight. With a win and a Whalers loss, the Nords will overtake the Whalers for third in the league. With a loss and a Dead River win, the Tuckies could slip to last place in the UVHL this season.
So this should be a battle of pride tonight. The Nordiques have been utterly awful as of late, dropping their last 3 games and last 5 of 6. They couldn't score a goal if the puck was a pebble and the goal was the ocean.
Tuck has also had a rough go as of late, losing their last four games(two coming on forfeit as they were on spring break), and a whoppin' 9 of their last 10 games. A high point for Tuck would be that their last win came against the Nordiques 5 weeks ago in a scorching 3-2 dozer.
This should be an interesting game to watch, but look for Tuck to lull the Nords to sleep again, 3-2.
Nordiques Comeback, Nip Tuck 4-3
You read that right, the Nordiques Nip Tuck'd. After a horrendous start that saw them dominate but go down 2-0 in the first period, and then be dominated late in the third only to sit back and hope for a win...which they got.
The Nord's Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner was dialed in, stopping 39 of 42 shots in this contest, 18 of those saves coming in the third period. He got a little help from the post in each period, but seemed to have everything in control, taking away angles and rebounds.
Tuck's Benny "The Tower Of" Dower was also good, but a garbage goal and two that trickled through him ended up being the difference.
The Nordiques were all over Tuck in the first period especially against their second line. The only issue is they would pressure against the second line and continue it against Tuck's top line, but a quick turnover resulted in two goals for Tuck.
Their first registered shot on goal was their first goal of the night as a Nordique turnover down low in Tuck's end saw Brandon Harrington walk down the near boards and fire a shot that hit the back boards and whipped around to the other side of the zone. Some poor coverage saw Harrington retrieve his initial shot, walk to the tops of the circles and beat Turner cleanly with a wrister over the waffle.
That same line capitalized again on their next shift after the Nordiques dominated again. This time Harrington cut down the far boards, around a Nord's defender and to the crease. Turner poke-checked Harrington, but McCaferty was there to jam home the rebound.
The Nordiques got on the board 4 minutes later when Eric "The Kriz" Krivitzky picked up a beaut of a pass in the neutral zone from Jordy "McNuggets" McGee. The Kriz walked down the far boards and beat Dower with a wrister far size up and over the blocker.
END OF THE FIRST: Tuck 2, Nordiques 1
The Nordiques took the lead in the second frame with a pair of late goals. Brian "Red Beard" Racicot hit Greg "The Bloody Butcher of Guelphtown" Marsh with a perfect breakaway pass. Marshy then fired a quick snapper 5-hole on Dower that just trickled through to the back of the net. That goal came with 2:16 to play in the second, and Jordy McGee put the Nord's up just 40 seconds later, also going 5-hole and trickling through.
END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 3, Tuck 2
The Nordique's Roger "The Dirty and Rusty Old Dentist Drill" Phillips showed his precision as he feathered a garbage goal through about 34 bodies in front of Dower at 11:24 to give the Nordiques that much needed insurance goal that would eventually become the game winner.
At this point the Nordiques went into hibernation, hoping to contain the top line for Tuck and hold on for the win. Tuck pushed harder than a constipated fat man on the toilet and got back in the game with just 4:17 to play with a highlight goal from Josh "The Tourney" Cherney. On the play, one of the Nordique's defensmen tried icing the puck, only to see Cherney pick it out of mid air take a few steps to the high slot and beat Turner with a snapper high glove side.
Tuck continued to press, but Turner shut the door and the Nordiques held on for the much needed win.
