Dead River Hopes To Dig Out of Basement
ODDS: | Brewers By 2 Goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 10 Goals |
The Dead River team can finally climb out of the basement in the last game of the season with a win over the Brewers. They sit one point behind Tuck and thanks to some timely alternates they have gone 4-2-0 in their last six games of the season while previously starting the season 1-14-0.
The Brewers sit comfortably in second place and have earned a first round by in the playoffs. They will scrimmage the Gamblers next week, but will need to muster some enthusiasm for this meaningless game(meaningless to them).
Dead River will be without the players they borrow from the Brewers week in and week out, but should be able to pull in some talent to round out their roster with some players from the early & late game.
Brewers are too tough and will outlast Dead River 6-4.
Dead River Upsets Brewers 6-5 In Shootout
Dead River closed out their season on a high note after starting the season 1-14-0, finishing the season 4-2-0, climbing out of the basement and into 5th place(out of 6 teams).
The Brew Crew on the other hand have had a bit of a slide to end the season. On January 31st they sat on a lofty 10-4-1 record. They were a dismal 2-4-1 to finish the season, including a 6-5 loss to the last placed Dead River Rats tonight, but still hung on to second place.
This game was especially entertaining as the tandem combined or 81 shots on goal, 10 goals, just one penalty and six penalty shots. They traded goals from the first minute of play until the last minute.
The Brewers scored first just 44 seconds into the first period on the first shot of the game. Aaron "Man Juice" Mancuso cut across the high slot and fired a shot back across the grain mid-blocker side for the goal on Greg "Bin Laden" Bin Feiden.
Dead River tied the game seven minutes later on a beautiful goal from Jason "Toe-Drag" Gramling. Gramling dipsy-doed a Brewers forward at the point took two steps forward and blasted a shot off the post blocker side.
The Brewer's pulled in a pair of subs and had a significant impact from the Whaler's Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni with a goal and pair of assists. Zanleoni recorded his first assist late in the first after keeping the puck in at the point with a great play and move, then air-mailing a pass down low to Keith "Bubba" Lazarczyk all alone in the slot for the goal.
END OF THE FIRST: Brewers 2, Dead River 1
Dead River doubled up the Brewers in the second frame to tie the game at 3 goals apiece. Greg "Fatass" Hadley tied the game just over three minutes into the period off the faceoff only to see Mancuso erase his efforts when Zanleoni found Mancuso with a 90 foot pass sending him in all alone to fire a shot that broke through Feiden. Gramling had another highlight goal late in the second, this time making the Brewer's Jason "Yippy Skippy" Yehle look like a mite with a toe-drag and then beating Matty "Spazzy" Albertazzi five-hole.
END OF THE SECOND: Brewers 3, Dead River 3
Zanleoni beat Feiden with a wrister in the first minute of the second after taking a nice drop pass from Chris "Doobie" Dubin. Jason "Loopy" Loomis scored a power play goal at 11:12 of the third period to tie the game only to see the Brewers Chris "Turtle" Johnson break that tie twelve seconds later with a wrister blocker side from 20 feet out.
Dead Rive rpulled their goalie with a minute to play and capitalized when AJ Hamel beat Albertazzi with just 45 seconds to play, forcing the game into a shootout.
END OF REGULATION: Brewers 5, Dead River 5
The shootout was impressive...impressively bad as the Brewer's had two players, Johnson & Mancuso, loose the puck on their way in. Dead River's Greg Hadley missed wide...and WAY WIDE. The Brewer's Keith Lazarczyk took his cue from Hadley and missed wide, WAY FUCKING WIDE. Dead River's Kyle Koetsier rang the post and it finally came down to Jason Gramling to finish it with a backhand chip over Albertazzi for the win.
