ODDS: | Tuck by 2 |
OVER/UNDER: | 8 |
Tuck is the favorite, but the Brewers have beaten them once. Will the Tuckies make the snowy drive tonight? Will they show up with 4 skaters and Yacey in net? They still might win... The Brewers physical style could earn them a win, but will half their team make it over Killington mountain all the way to Woodstock tonight? If it goes to a shootout my money is on the Brewers after that pathetic display last week! The game is ON no matter what the weather looks like since we can never reschedule, so drive safely and we'll see you on the ice!
Brewers spoil Kenning's shutout bid on PP late in third
Tuck sported Steve "Krazy Kanadian" Kenning in net for the absent Dan Yacey, and Kenning put on a 32 save performance missing a shutout given up on a Brewers PPG late in the game. But first, there was a Brewers goal called off at 14:09 for what appeared to be a man in the crease. This period was characterized by bad passes, missed nets, and blocked shots... kinda boring, although Tuck advanced the puck gracefully through the neutral zone. Brewers tenacious captain Garren Poirier charged in with the puck and crashed the net at 8:05 knocking over Kenning, but Johnson met Poirier full on to deflect most of the blow. it was a highlight play, the net was knocked off, and there was a writhing man-pile that would make Park aroused and former Brewer Nick Bayley massage himself underneath his jock strap a little more than usual. All players got up, there was no bullshit as they chalked it up to "that's just hockey", and the game continued with no penalties - a class act by all involved. There were more missed passes, and several low shots, but nothing exciting until Poirier went to the box for high sticking (weird, huh?) at 0:46 and a Tuck D-to-D passing play created a shot that Crowson made the initial right pad save on, but Colin Carrihill was waiting for the rebound and "tucked" it in (I couldn't resist...) at 0:38. Shots were 7-7 at the end of the first.
Tuck scored on a slapper over Crowson's left shoulder as he came out to cut down the angle and left the side of the net open for Hay's marker at 13:04 from Helming. Tuck hit the post on Crowson's blocker side at 11:57, and then Kenning robbed Pomeroy at the other end with his glove at 9:21 off a pass in front. There was a BIG save by Kenning at 4:03 on Pomeoroy down low after Pomeroy stole the puck off the last Tuck defender by backchecking hard and going in on a breakaway. Tuck scored at 3:45 with Johnson creating a pass to Lytle for a low one-timer past Crowson's blocker on the PP with Poirier strangely in the box for hooking. There were a lot more shots at this point in the game, and it was more exciting. late in the leriod, hay reversed directions not liking what he saw, and then fed the puck to Johnson who went in from inside his own blueline to score a highlight top corner goal at 0:24.
Tuck got their first shot at 12:00 of the third, but the Brewers had already garnered 3 of their own by that point. Crowson made a BIG save after Brewers alternate Jay Zaneloni was stripped of the puck as the last man back for the great Tuck chance at 9:55. A passing play led by Johnson from the point to the front of the net at 5:45 had Crowson make the first save, but Barnett was there to put in the rebound. Brewers forward Aaron Mancuso spoiled Kenning's shutout with a clutch PPG at 3:50 with Helming in the box for slashing assisted by the original Chris Johnson.
Final Score: Tuck 5, Brewers 1
Final Tally: Kenning was sharp, Johnson had 1G, 3A on 5 Tuck goals; James Hay earned 1G, 2A. Mancuso gets the designation as the shutout spoiler with his goal.
Final Analysis: Better rebound control and clearing would have helped the Brewers. Tuck's Chris Johnson led the team from the blueline, and was noticeable on almost every shift.
