Brewers Shock Tuckies, 6-3

The Brewers shocked the Tuckies tonight with a solid 6-3 win. Despite the fact that Tuck was missing a large portion of their everyday team, this was still a better Tuck team that beat the Nordiques 5-4 last week.

After getting blown out last week by the Whalers, the Brew Crew seemed a bit motivated to prove that they weren't the bottom of the barrel in the UVHL. Backed by a solid goaltending performance from Matty "The Crow" Crowson turned away 35 of 38 shots for his 4th win of the season. Chris "Doobie" Dubin had a career night with a pair of goals and two helpers, earning himself a Player of the Week nod.

The Brewers opened up the scoring in the first minute of play when Chris "The Old Johnson" Johnson hit Aaron "Mandingo" Mancuso with speed at Tuck's blue line. Mancuso caught Tuck's Andrew "Hell Boy" Helming flat-footed, taking him wide before cutting in and burning Benny Dower 5-hole.

Tuck tied the score with 8:59 remaining in the first on a nasty breakaway goal from Halsey "Turn Your Head And..." Coughlin. Coughlin took a pass from Chris "The Young" Johnson, cut in on Crowson and made him look like a blind "B" league goalie with a quick fake to the backhand before cutting back to the forehand and sliding the puck under Crowson. Tuck continued with their pressure for the next few minutes, pinning the Brewers in their own and and forcing Crowson to stand on his head to keep the game tied.

Crowson saw 4 minutes of extended pressure, but Dower was the busier of the two crease jockeys as turned away 13 of 14 to Crowson's 8 of 9 saves.

END OF THE FIRST: Brewers 1, Tuck 2

The Tuckies continued their pressure into the second period, outshooting the Brewers 15-14, but a pair of unanswered goals from the Brewers were the beginning of the end for Tuck. Mancuso opened things up again in the first minute of the period with a garbage goal at the top of the crease. Dubin got his own garbage goal with 5:42 to play after a Keith Lazercyzk blast from 40 feet out hit Dower in the chest, popped up 10 feet in the air and onto the stick of Dubin who was crashing the net for an empty netter.

Coughlin cut the lead down to 1 with a quick snapper over the blocker of Crowson at 4:33 only to see Brock Barton negate his goal 23 seconds later. Barton made a nice play walking off the near half boards and beating Dower with a perfectly placed wrister off the far post and in.

Coughlin completed the hat trick on the powerplay with 1:06 to play in the second. With Garren "teed Penalty" Poirier in the box for tripping at 1:31, Coughlin finished a nice pass from Helming to make this a 4-3 game heading to the 3rd period.

END OF THE SECOND: Brewers 4, Tuck 3

The third period was the busiest yet for the two goaltenders. Dower turned away 17 of 19 and Crowson was perfect with 14 saves. The Brewers scored the only 2 goals of the period behind a beautiful display of stickhandling from Cort Pomeroy and Dubin snapshot. "Cort cut through 4 Tuckie defenders, it was sick" said Poirier as he recalled the goal with a glint of man-love in his eyes. That was Pomeroy's 5th goal this season in 5 games, not bad for the rookie.

Dubin closed out the scoring with 2:38 to play after Crowson made a ridiculous pad save on a Helming spin-a-round in the crease. Chris "The Old" Johnson picked up the rebound and dumped it out. Dubin caught up with the cleared puck and beat Dower with a quick snapshot.

END OF REGULATION: Brewers 6, Tuck 3

The Brewers brought something extra tonight, most likely motivated by their loss last week. Tuck seems to play to the level of their opponents, and this was not a good game for them.
