This should be a cake-walk for the Gamblers. They have won all 5 games against the Brewers this year, outscoring them 36-15. The Brewers are coming off of a late-rally win over the Whalers where they were down 4-1 heading into the 3rd period and scored 4 unanswered goals for the win. If the Brewers start out slow, the Gamblers are going to put them in a hole and bury them alive.
The Gamblers took the first seed by dominating the UVHL this season to a remarkable 20-1-2 record. The Brewers were dismally inconsistent and ended up with an 11-12-0 record. If the Brewers hope to win this one, they need to protect their own zone, backup their netminder & focus on shutting down the top line of Willy "The Miserable Miser" Meyer, Matty "The Mailman" Marrazzo & Danny "The Danimal" Ammel. If they take chances against that line, a mistake can turn into a goal against faster than you can blink.
The Brewers will also need Nick "The Stick" Bayley to take his offense into his own hands and bury at least 7 goals. The Gamblers have had excellent goaltending from Greg "First Period" Feiden who has done an excellent job filling in for the injured Jared "The Condor" Condon. At the other end, Pete "The Meat" Bartline will need to be at his best.....which he has not been against the 'Blers this year.
Gamblers should walk away with this one...5-3 or 6-4. This will probably start out a close game and the 'Blers will break it open in the 3rd period.
Brewers Muscle Their Way into the Finals.....7-2.
Do you believe in Miracles? The top ranked Gamblers have fallen in devastating fashion to the Brewers, 7-2. The Brewers muscled and bullied their way into the minds of the Gamblers, taking them off of their game & essentially shutting down their offense. Pete "The Meat" Bartline was at his best tonight, turning away 25 of 27 shots on his way to the win. There were 23 penalties called for 46 total minutes spent in the sin bin. The referees made it clear from the first period that they weren't going to put up with any shit and in an attempt to keep tempers from flaring called 5 matching penalties. The Brewers, being the perennial instigators, happily took 15 of the 23 penalties tonight.
The Brewers opened the scoring in the first period with a Brian Smith goal, assisted by Dan "Chubby Hubby" Charrette & Chris "Turtle" Johnson just under halfway into the period. With 3:18 to play in the period and the Brewer's Billy "The Kid" Fletcher in the box for goaltender interference, Dan "The Man" Ammel tied the game on a breakaway pass from Marc "The Narc" Gattie. There were 5 penalties called, including 2 matching calls to the Brewer's two most hated men, Garren "Guaranteed Penalty" Poirier & Brock "The Bully" Barton. Poirier took some liberties on Jason "Slapshot" Young, suckering him into retaliation while Barton's focus was on the Gambler's captain & leader Willy "The Miserable" Meyer.
END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 1, Brewers 1
The Brewers were their busiest in the 2nd period, adding 4 goals and 4 more penalties. By this point the Gamblers were starting to become flustered and their bench was alive with moans & jeers. They had quickly lost favor for the referees and the entire Brewers team, they focused more on bitching about the calls & non-calls than they did about putting the dang puck in the net. Billy Fletcher & Nick "The Dirty Dirty Stick" Bayley assisted on each other's goals for the first two tallies of the period. Bayley hit Fletch on a 2 on 1, and Fletcher blocked a Marc Gattie point shot that sent Bayley in all alone on Feiden. Bayley threw a couple of head fakes on Feiden at the top of the circle before faking to his backhand and "Doing a Forsberg".....or this
Needless to say it was nasty! Twenty-seven seconds later Brock "Bully" Barton roughed up Tyson "Chicken Mattress" Seely, and for some reason the refs took both players to the box. Standing next to the Gambler's bench was interesting as the chirping was out of control. Captain Meyer was visibly upset as he jumped over the boards and settled in for the faceoff and "Pulled a Willy Meyer" just 19 seconds later after firing a WICKED HAAAHHD snapshot from the tops of the circles and splitting the defense for his own rebound....kind of like this...
Poirier broke the game open with 2:54 to play in the 2nd with a blast from the point, followed 10 seconds later by a Fletcher to Aaron "ManBearPig" Mancuso goal. Poirier's goal came on the powerplay with Gattie in the box for high sticking.
END OF THE SECOND PERIOD: Gamblers 2, Brewers 5
As the 3rd period started, I don't think there was a single person in the building that didn't think the Gamblers were going to tear the game open in the 3rd and take control...myself included. The Gamblers have been notorious all season for slow starts followed by a complete dismantling of their opponent in the 3rd period. The Brewers continued to bully the G-MEN for the next 15 minutes as they amassed 8 more penalties and forcing the Gamblers away from their highly skilled play and into a slugfest. The 'Blers took 5 penalties of their own as tempers started to flare, but the only difference is that the Brewers seemed to be able to focus on hockey while embattled in a brawl. Mancuso added another goal on a beautiful pass from Bayley with 4:57 to play. The Brewer's old man, Alfonse "The Fonz" Sorrentino got on the scoresheet with 3:02 to play in the game by mucking it up with a Gambler 1/3 his age, when Reuben Lyons tripped him off of a faceoff and Sorrentino threw a couple quick jabs to state.."I may be old, but I ain't gonna take any of your shit." Both were sent to the sin bin with shame. Fletcher closed out the scoring with 48 seconds to play, but the game had already been over for most of the period. Chris "Turtle" Johnson & Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo were both assessed penalties as the final buzzer rang, sending the Gambler's to their locker room in shame, the Brewers to the finals, and the Nordiques saying...."Oh shit, we have to play those fucking assholes next week!"
CJ? No thoughts on this one? Is it biased because the Gamblers SPANKED you guys in all 5 games this season?
I hope it's a close one.

Biased as well Apr 6th, 2010 03:47 PM
This one is biased against the Brew Crew, because of your hatred for us, our superior players and aggressive play. Something tells me this one will be a shocker, and you go 0-2 on your predictions...

The Stick Apr 6th, 2010 07:06 PM
Nothing biased about referring to Bayley as "The Stick," although I think "Dirty Stick" might be more fitting and more for what the connotation you were looking for Kelly. After last week when he knocked two Whalers sticks out in the third period with overhead hacks and the cross check to my back that made sitting in the car on a four-hour drive to NJ miserable, he's definitely got one filthy stick!

stally knows Bailey Apr 8th, 2010 06:50 AM
He's right Bailey has one dirty stick! It's a good thing he works in a hospital, one quick shot should take care of it.
