The Tale of the Whale, will not sink the 'Blers tonight
ODDS: | Gamblers by 2 |
OVER/UNDER: | 6 goals |
This is one of the more interesting games of the season. The 'Blers have lost their last two games to the Whalers this season, including their only regulation loss the last time they faced off.
The Whalers are one of the few teams that have realized how to play competitive hockey against the Gamblers. Mainly....let their 2nd line beat you! Without a doubt, the most dynamic line in the UVHL if not all of the Northeast is Willy "The Miserable" Meyer, Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo & Danny "The Animal" Ammel. Together the MMA line has combined for 100 of the 122 goals their team has scored this season in just 22 games.
The Whalers have bolstered their team this season, bringing in some premier talent, but will be missing one of their best forwards tonight in Jay "The Chin" Zanleoni who will be in Maine competing in a Jay Leno Lookalike Contest. If the rest of the team is there, then this will be a close one, but the Gamblers will most likely explode in the 3rd as they did in the last 2 weeks, coming from behind on both the Nordiques & Brewers.
Gamblers will win this one late 4-2 or 5-3.
Gamblers Beat Up Whalers 8-5 in Regular Season Finale
The top seeded Gamblers clinched 1st place months ago, but had the honor of facing off against their toughest opponent this season in the Whalers. The Whalers gave the G-Men their only regulation loss of the season in their last meeting...something that was sure to stick in the minds of their captain Willy "The Miserable" Meyer. The Whalers were missing a couple of key players in Jay "The Chin" Zanleoni, Scotty "Too Hotty" Leger & Joey "The Mute" Hayes. The Gamblers were stacked as usual with their standard 2 lines & 4 defensemen.
In typical fashion, the Whalers played the Gamblers hard....but this time, their intensity lasted less than a full period before the Gamblers ran away with it. Tyson Seely opened the scoring on the game with a breakaway from the Whaler's new favorite player, Allison "The Hook" Malcolm. Malcolm made some friends for life tonight as she bullied her 110 lb frame around the ice pissing off every Whaler who came in contact with her, garnering the new nickname, Allison "Little Oliver" Malcolm. The Whalers tied the game up at 5:34 when Steve "The Beav" Bernier finished off a Cody "The Kid" Vose pass. The Gamblers bounced right back with 3 goals in the last 1:25 of the period behind a pair from Matty "The Mailman" Marrazzo & one from Meyer. Two of those goals came directly from Marc "The Narc" Gattie who had 3 assists on the night and was stellar on defense. Marrazzo's 2nd goal was beautiful as he took a pass from Gatte at center ice, cut across the blue line as Meyer crashed the net, then cut back to the high slot before beating Lallier with a quick wrister high glove side.
Zach "Ziggy" Aher cut the lead to 2 at 9:07 with a sick goal from Gary "The Pearl" LaPerle, only to see the Gambler's add 2 more behind Marrazzo's hat trick at 6:39 and Meyer's 2nd goal at 2:59. Both Marrazzo & Meyer were the primary assists on each other's goals. Scotty "The Fuzz" Fraser took the only penalty of the period when Shawn "McWhistle" McDermott called him for Tripping at 11:47, only to hear Fraser scream and holler at the top of his lungs as if McDermott had just stabbed him in the heart. It may be a shocker, that even though Fraser pleaded his case, the call was not overturned.
The G-Men put their scoring machine on cruise control in the 3rd period, but still managed to pot an additional two goals before. The first came from Jason "Old Timer" Young, with a grea move at center ice and then unleashing a BOMB of a slapshot from just inside the blueline that beat Lallier cleanly. Meyer finished off his hat trick with 9:43 to play, then moved back to defense which ended up being a historically bad idea as the Gamblers hung their goalie, Greg "First Period" Feiden. The Gamblers collapsed, allowing 3 Whaler's goals to close out the game and ruining Feiden's nice night. Two goals came from Scotty "Sugar" Shaw and the third from a sweet play set up by Shaw to Vose to Bernier in the slot.
The G-Men finally got over their phobia of the Whalers and pounced on them early and often. The Whaler's, who were riding a rare short bench, were outgunned and outmanned. With a full bench, the Whalers are dangerous, but tonight wasn't their night.

KP Considering it's my game, you'd think I have something to say, but honestly, it's a good team, and while we've had success, I'm not gonna gamble on saying anything. I'll let my on-ice action do the talking. Simply put, I'm going with my poker face on this one. hkydoc WRJ, VT

It was still a good game!

I think Joey was sick, Jay and Scott are both regulars but they couldn't be there for whatever reason (we knew ahead of time). Haven't seen Oliver in about a month, it's certainly confused Parky's stripes as he has no idea which Whaler to put in the box now. We expect to be back at full strength for the playoffs (although there's no guarantee on Oliver). | | | |
