UPPER VALLEY HOCKEY LEAGUE

ODDS:	Gamblers by 2 goals
OVER/UNDER:	8 goals

The top two teams in the UVHL face off in the middle game tonight, but some crack reporting has determined that most Tuckies can't afford a DVR and therefore may be missing their game due to the Canada vs. Germany Olympic hockey game scheduled for 7:30pm tonight.

If this is the case, the game could take an ugly turn for Tuck and stretching odds for this game, ballooning the Gamblers to be favored by 4 goals instead of 2. The Gamblers will be very angry after taking it HARD for their first regulation loss of the season with an 8-6 stunner from the Whalers where netminder Greg Feiden wasn't great and their defense was even worse.

Tuck has been consistent all season, but has had trouble with the gamblers, losing 4-2, 5-2 & winning a shootout 5-4. This one is roster-dependent, but should be a great game regardless, as both teams play their best hockey with short benches.

Gamblers 6, Tuckies 2.....or 3

Coming off their first regulation loss in 18 games this season, the Gambler's(15-1-2) were looking for redemption tonight. Unfortunately they came out flat and were dominated for the first 2 periods by a Tuck team that was missing 5 of their Canadian players due to the Canada VS Germany Olympic Hockey game.

Filling in between the pipes for Tuck was Pete "The Meat" Bartline who did a stellar job, despite taking the 4-3 loss. Also helping out Tuck was Jay "Leno" Zanleoni who added depth up front.

Tuck came out flying and peppered the Gambler's with 20 shots, leaving Greg "Gametime" Fieden out to dry as he turned aside 17 of the shots, making some huge saves early to keep his team in this one. The Tuckies dominated from the first faceoff and jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from defensemen Andrew "Hellboy" Helming & Ryan "The Govenator" McGovern. Both goals were assisted by Simon "The Bum Looker" McKay, with Helming also recording an assist on McG's goal.

The 'Blers Willy "The Miserable" Meyer cut the lead in half from his BFF Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo at 4:16 only to see Tuck bounce back less than a minute later on a Johnny "The Big Red Dog" Clifford to Colin "The Coup" Carrihill goal with 3:18 to play.

Bartline turned away 11 of 12 shots to keep Tuck up 3-1 at the end of the first frame. After taking some unnecessary penalties in the week before, the Gambler's kept their poise in the first period, despite having to chase Tuck around their zone for most of it, and managed to stay out of the box.

END OF THE FIRST: Tuckies 3, Gamblers 1

The second period was again dominated by Tuck as Feiden stood tall, shutting the door on all 14 shots, and killing off a power play with Reuben "The Kitten" Lyons in the box for tripping. At the other end of the ice, Barty stopped 9 of 9 shots, none of them being grade "A" scoring chances, but regardless, he held his position, and maintained his rebounds.

In between periods, you could see Meyer revving up his team like a little Napolean screaming at his troops. The speech worked, and the Gamblers came out flying and scoring a goal just 2:34 into the 3rd frame. The goal came from a nice play by Allison "The Hook" Malcolm in the near corner, as she battled a Tuckie twice her size and moved the puck up to the point where Marc "The Narc" Gattie unleashed a blistering shot through a screen and directly under the crossbar glove side. There was nothing Bartline could have done, as he didn't even see it coming, but you could sense that the G-Men were angry, and the tides were turning. Tuck started to fall back into defensive mode, trying to protect their 1 goal lead and coast to a solid 3-2 win, but their play fell apart very quickly in the last 6 minutes as Dan "The Man" Ammel recorded a natural hat trick including 2 in the last minute. The first goal came from a pass from Jason Young "Blood" and Marrazzo at 5:30. The second was a beautiful 100 foot indirect pass from defenseman Scotty "Too Hotty" Fraser with 42 seconds to play. Fraser was in the far corner, and saw Ammel cutting across the neutral zone before firing a cross ice pass that hit the boards near the scorekeepers box and right onto the tape of Ammel who walked in all alone and toasted Bartline like chestnuts over an open fire. Ammel added an open netter from Meyer with 14 seconds to play to cap off an impressive 4 goal 3rd period, and seal the Gamblers as the most dangerous last minute team in UVHL history.

All due respect to our "Impossible Dream" team here in the US, but they tied the Swiss and lost to an unseasoned group of American kids. I agree with the Pre-Game Report, this game should be DVR'd. If Canada loses, you'll regret having watched it; but considering it's Germany, the Maple Leafs should win easily. I want to see what the Gamblers have in store after the loss. Everyone falls off the horse, but it's those that dust themselves off and get right back up that win championships. In high school, we had a team goal: never lose consecutive games (and we never did). This should be a good test for the Poker Faced considering how well Tuck has played. If the Gamblers can pull this out, the rest of us best take cover; if they don't, it's open season and everyone is gonna want a rifle.

I always wanted to go to grad. school - do they accept GED's? I am w/ McCheese on this one .. USA is seasoned maybe not to the years of Canada but they are by means rookies. The youngers US guys beat alot of the younger canadiens in the world jrs., I think.

McD Paul, I still don't get why you have multiple pairs of goalie pads... I'm sticking to my guns on my statement about the US team, 14 of the team's 23 players are age 25 or under. Sure, it's a very talented group but the biggest difference between the USA and Team Canada: Canada was built to win a Gold Medal THIS year, the US was built to gain experience and compete for A medal with the expectation that with all those young guys learning to play together, they'd be ready to Gold in four years. The vets were well chosen leaders (Drury, Rafalski, Langenbrunner) with proven track records of success that could help bring the young guys together. Think about it, if all you guys in your 30s (or 40s) view me as a "kid," at age 23, then you'd have to hold the same convictions for the guys on the USA team that are younger than me: both Johnsons, Kane, Ryan, and Kessel.

I think not. The score may have been 5-3, but honestly, 3 of the 5 were deflected, and 1 was an empty-net goal. I will say that the US team looked really good. They were fast, physical and were the hungrier team. As a Canadian, I hope we can get by Russia, but I know this will be a tough task. Russia has the most potent offense. I wouldn't want to be the next country that faces Canada if we happen to beat the Russians. Sweden will also be a tough win, and they have many offensive talents. Not taking anything away from USA, because they earned the big upset, and I know I felt, as many other Canadians felt like they were punched in the gut after that one. In closing, I know that Ryan Miller has got to be the difference. If he has even an average game, they likely won't make the medals. As a hockey fan though, this Gold medal is almost impossible to predict, but with Russia as the favorite in my opinion, any team that knocks them off, goes right to the top.
