Tuck SHOCKS THE WORLD!!!!! Blank Brewers 4-0 to move to Semi-Finals.
Tuck dominated this one on their way to a solid 4-0 win. Limiting the Brewers to a measley 20 shots through 45 minutes of play. The Brewers looked drained without 4 of their top players in the lineup. Bayley, Lyle, Barton & Isaac were all in group therapy that ran over. How can you show up without 4 of your best players for a playoff game and expect to win? Well, this is what happens, and a good team with all the potential to raise the Whalen Cup for the first time goes down like a 2 dolla Ho in the Quarterfinals 4-0 to a surging Tuck squad that just got better and better as the season went on.
The first period was scoreless, eventless, no penalties, and except for Tuck dominating and getting their groove on it was like it didn't even happen. In the second Tuck's top line broke through with the UVHL's second leading scorer Adam Mantin solving Nick Louras in the Brewers net at 10:50 from super set-up linemates Derek Nowak and Simon McKay. This top trio rivaled the MMA line on the Gamblers and the Pattison-Turcotte duo on the Kings, and is capable of winning a game all by themselves. Brewers D Kevin Calder went to the box for tripping at 8:00, but the Brewers held off the Tuck attack. Nowak scored his first at 3:00 from Mantin and McKay, and then Mantin scored again to make it 3-0 on a back breaker PP goal with only 57 seconds left in the period with the Brewers feisty Garren Poirier in the box for bodychecking, and it was basically over at that point. Tuck continued the 4 minute onslaught with their third goal, this time by Nate Berner from Ryuji Kikuchi and Matt Hession at 14:37 of the third. After that the Brewers seemed to go through the motions knowing it was over and that they would have a date for the Battle of the Basement next week instead of advancing to the Semi-Finals.
This game would have been closer, no doubt, if the Brewers had their best line-up on the ice. All I can do is ask in my best Nancy Kerrigan voice "WHYYYY?" Tuck looks intense and ready to knock off a hockey giant in Will Meyer and his Gamblers first shot at the Whalen Cup as a new UVHL team this season.
