ODDS: | Storm Kings by 3 |
OVER/UNDER: | 11 goals |
This should be a classic. Tuck seems to have worked out some of their defensive & netminding woes.....BUT.....that was in a 9-3 win over the Whalers. The Storm Kings are a crapshoot with a 2-1-1 record in their last 4, and they haven't scored more than 5 goals in any of them. The Kingers opened the season scoring 27 in their first 3 games but have only put up 15 in their past 4 games.
Both teams are physical and can show a mean streak, so this should be a penalty riddled event. I'll have to get there early for this one. My prediction......Storm Kings take it 7-4.
Storm Kings Versus Tuck
Another classic battle at THE U, when the Storm Kings hosted the Tuck School of Broadcasting Flying Turduckens. The Tuck team started the season in a dreadful pit of a slump that had them looking more like a JV floor basketball team than a hockey organization. The Kingers started out ok with a 2-2-0 record but have since gone 4-1-2.
The Kingers would be without the crazy Frenchman as Danny French "Fries" called in last minute with a sprained pinky toe. In his place would be Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner, playing his first of 3 games on the night. At the other end, Ryan "The Hot Fizz" Fitzgerald has corrected his eye sight and posted a 3.33 GAA in his past 3 games. Right from the get-go, it looked as if the Storm Kings were going to rout the lowly Tuckeroonies, as the Kingers surmounted a 5-0 shot lead in the first 3 minutes of play. Tuck couldn't seem to get out of their own way, but Fitzy was there on all 5 to keep it notted at zero.
Then the tides turned and Tuck recorded the next 12 shots on Turner, where the Kinger's looked as if they had forgotten how to play hockey. Luckily the 12 shots Turner faced were a combined 65 MPH of belly tickling girly shots. After the Tuck onslaught, the play pretty much flowed in a high speed, high intensity hockey game. At 7:50 of the first Robby "Patty Cakes" Pattison fired a laser of a backhander from the slot up over the shoulder of Fitzgerald clanking the crossbar, ricocheting down into and then out of the crease. The referee, Shawn "Blue Cheese" McDermott, in his infinite rookie reffing wisdom, called it a goal from 80 feet away. In an unseen act of sportsmanship, Pattison corrected McBuffaloWings and told him that he, infact, hadn't scored. The only other notable in the first was that Marty "Gandalf the Grey" White took a rare boarding call.
END OF THE FIRST: Storm Kings 0, Tuck 0
SAVES: Turner(STK) 17, Fitzy(Tuck) 10
The second period picked up in terms of action from the first period, despite there being almost half the amount of shots on goal. The Tuckernoodles finally broke the tie with 8:09 to play when Artie "The One Man Party" Stout drove Simon "The Bum Looker" McKay into the boards from behind. McKay took offense to that and slashed Stout across the ankles. This didn't go unnoticed by the rest of the Storm Kings, who always come to their own players defense whether or not they were being a COMPLETE AND UTTER DEUSCHBAG. As the remainder of the Kingers squad focused on McKay, the puck squirted to Nowak at the far faceoff dot, and then quickly took 2 steps and roofed the puck over a downed Turner. A coupla minutes later, Ricky "Anger Management" Hughes went to the box STEAMING after taking a checking call that he didn't thiink he deserved. He bitched about it as usual, even after the scorekeeper, comissioner, 2 refs, both benches & GOD all let him know that it was definitely a penalty.
Pattison tied the game up with 3:22 on a beautiful play as he picked up an indirect pass from Patty "Turbo" Turcotte on the far boards. Pattison walked in along the boards, one on one with Ryan "Tha Govenah" McGovern. McGovern went down to one knee, in what I can only describe as some sort of 'electric slide' dance move, forcing Pattison to cut across the zone and into the high slot. Pattison then roofed a nasty backhander up over Fitzgerald who was down on his knees in a puddle of his own urine. Tuck's Mantin put Tuck up 2-1 with 1:53 to go after making Turner look like a mite goalie going down like a "two-legged hooker" (Greg Hadley). Nowak picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone with the Kinger's only man back being "Mean" Dean Cashman. Cashman, showing his skills on defense went right to the puck carrier and let Nowak hit Mantin streaking along the red line. Mantin broke in on Turner left to right, forcing Turner to go down and cover the far post, but Mantin out waited him and then threw a perfectly placed shot back against the grain top corner over Turner's blocker shoulder.
END OF THE SECOND: Storm Kings 1, Tuck 2
SAVES: Turner(STK) 22, Fitzgerald(TCK) 16
The Storm Kings woke up in the 3rd period, outshooting Tuck 8 to 4 and outscoring them 3-1 for the win. The physicality & tenacity also jumped up a couple of notches with 5 of the 7 penalties in the game, but none led to any powerplay or shorthanded goals. The Kinger's Pattison got his 2nd of the night and tied the game up at 10:15 on a pass from "Sticky" Ricky Hughes & Patty "Cakes" Turcotte. That goal was followed by 8 scorelees minutes & 3 penalties before Tommy Scull "Crusher" finished a Marty "Galdalf The Grey" White pass to give the Kingers the lead with 3:24 to go. Tuck jumped back in ti only 29 seconds later when their top line connected again with a Nowak to Mantin to McKay goal. Tuck couldn't hang onto the momentum and turned the puck over just 87 seconds later when Turcotte took a pass from Hughes and burried it past Fitzgerald for the game winning goal and a buck twenty eight to go.

| Good, tough game by both squads. Jan 7th, 2009 03:42 PM
Tuck just keeps getting better and better and proved it by scoring a shitload of goals on JT who was filling in for Frenchy last-minute. The Kings played hard and with skill as usual, and this was a VERY even match with lots of physical play that we tried our best to balance out and call evenly. Good, tough, physical (sometimes TOO physical...more on that later), and skilled hockey by both teams! hkydoc WRJ, VT

Nice one, Park! Well, at least I didn't get charged by the goalie for calling it a goal! Ha ha ha ha! Pattison was a class act in admitting it hit crossbar and not inside the goal. Alas...the rookie reffing season continues... | |
