ODDS: | Kingers by 3 |
OVER/UNDER: | 12 goals |
If the Cardigan Short Bus makes the trip to Woodstock then you can bet the farm on a 4-5 goal Kings win. Bartline had better do some serious yoga beforehand and find his happy place because it won't be in his own net tonight facing the Fabulous Cardigan Five. The Brewers D is in for a tough game, Charette might lose 12 pounds in the first period alone, and the Brewers offense will be hamstrung without Bayley for the next 2 months. Although talented and more streamlined than last year, the Brewers offense can't keep up with the Kings...unless the Fab Five aren't there, and if so then I would predict a very close game with the winner being the one that keeps their cool the most and capitalizes on the PP. Otherwise, Kings by 5.
Brewers improve to 2-0 over lacklustre Storm Kings
I couldn't have been more wrong. I sit corrected. I offer my most profuse apologies. The expression goes something to the effect of "that is why we play the game", and it is appropriate for this particular UVHL match up in week 2. The Brewers, without top scorers Nick Bayley and Christian Isaac, absolutely DISMANTLED the Storm Kings who were only missing Rob Barker on forward and Tom Scull on defense. The Brewers looked like they were for real, had only 8 skaters on their bench, and played a full 45 minutes leading almost the entire time and only allowing the Kings to tie the game for just over 2 minutes. I had predicted a Storm Kings victory if the Cardigan Short Bus had made the trip, and it did, but I was dead wrong.
The Brewers welcomed the return of Joe Lyle to the squad, and he and newly crowned captain Kevin Calder made guest appearances on forward while Charette, McCabe, and Smith patrolled the blueline. Joining the Brewers forwards were regulars Chris Johnson, Garren Poirier, and newcomer Fletcher who was the star of the game. The Kings had more than enough players and firepower to dominate any UVHL team - they had 4 of 5 Cardigan "Stogies" on the bench (Sinclair, Leroy, Turcotte and Fitzgerald), 3 solid D (Stout, Hughes, Close), captains Dean Cashman and old man winter Marty White, plus a usually competitive Frenchy in net. Well, it was like mixing oil and water as the Kings just didn't show up for long enough to make some noise. To say the Frenchy had an off night would be putting it too lightly, and none of us watching could figure out why. After the Brewers regained the lead late in the second the Kings just seemed to give up, a strange sight indeed, and a rare one at that. There were 17 goals scored in this match, and there would have been more if it wasn't for Pete Bartline in the Brewers net. On the other hand, Frenchy seemed to let all of the goals that should have gone in, plus many more, into the Kings net. It was bizarre to say the least, and uncharacteristic.
Now, I'm not honestly going to list all of the goals in sentence form for thsi write-up, I'm just too damn lazy to do it this week, but here it is for you to perouse in a boxscore format:

Fletcher had 6 goals & 3 assists. Funny, I saw Chris Johnson at the bar and all he mentioned was the 2 goals he scored. Way to go CJ!!!!!! vtdownhiller , AL

Completely taken out of context....As we all know, Park was bombed out of his gourd , hitting on some blonde law student and had buffulo sauce still dripping off his chin.. I'm surprised he remembered anything I said at all.

CJ, I don't think it was taken out of context, this was your EXACT quote. "Yeah we demolished the Kingers like 2 or 3 to something. I'm not really sure how many goals they had because they sucked!!!! Actually I'm not really sure how many goals we scored either, but I'm pretty sure I had both of our teams goals. I think we won 2 - 1 and I had the game tying goal and the game winner. Man, if we only had 10 more of me on the ice we would be SO GOOOOOD." He then put raised his Strawberry Daiquiri in the air and said, "Here's to wishful thinking." It was a pretty weird one way conversation!

Yes I remember it now, that was the exact thing you said to me...only it sounding like a slurry of words run through the spin cycle on medium, but it's all coming back to me now...I won't lower myself to repeat the things you were saying about Tao
