Potter rides a 7 goal 3rd period against a 5-man Kingers squad.

After the SHALLACKING that the Storm Kings took last week at the hands of the undefeated Brewers, and the dismal offensive production from a winless Potter team, I was confidently predicting a Storm Kings dismantling of the Potterian squad, but man was I wrong. The Storm Kings, plagued by an inconsistent roster, were riding a 5 man team for the second time in 3 games. They previously beat the lowly NorLeafs with no subs......scratch that, they thoroughly handed the lowly NorLeafs an ass-whooping as they handily beat them 3-2 without any subs.

Potter was the only remaining winless team in the UVHL having suffered a dismal 3-2 loss to the NorLeafs the week before. The Kingers were came out in the first with an air of confidence in their 5; "Mean" Dean Cashman, Artie "The Hook" Stout, Stuart "The Reach" Close, "Flying" Mike Fitzgerald & Timmy "Tug Boat" Leroy. Powered by a pair of goals in the first 5 minutes by Deano Cashman, the Kinger's looked poised to run game on Potter with their excellent puck movement and poise on the ice. Potter bounced back with a pair of their own in the 9th minute of the period as Gary "The Razor" Smith beat French with a snap shot from the right faceoff dot from a pass from Willy "Oompa Loompa" Meyer followed by a Kevin "The Guillotine" Guillbault goal just 39 seconds later off of a Dan "Danimal" Ammel pass. Willy Meyer put Potter on top with just 2:29 to go off of a Jason "Ruggula" Rouillard feed with 2:29 to play in the first.

END OF THE FIRST: Potter 3, Storm Kings 2

The Storm Kings kicked into 2nd gear in the second period outshooting Potter 11-7 and outscoring them 2-0 behind Cashman's hatrick bid at 11:09 and Stu Close's 1st of the season to regain the lead 4-3. Both goals were assisted by Mike "Fire Ball" Fitzgerald, which was also his 3rd helper on the night. The Storm Kings looked like they had their game plan set and ready to roll but were worried about their resident goon Arthur "Slash" Stout who had already racked up 3 penalties on the night for hooking, checking & slashing. A few of the Potterians were really starting to show some frustration with the hard nosed play of Stout but knew that all he needed was one more penalty to be ejected for the game and ultimately KILL any and all momentum that the Storm Kings had built up over the first 2 periods.......and they would get their wish.

END OF THE SECOND: Potter 3, Storm Kings 4
SAVES: Lallier(PTR) 24. French(STK) 15

The 3rd period started to show some wear and tear on the short benched Storm Kings as their play turned a bit sloppy and desperate as their legs & lungs started to ache. Potter jumped all over them, ultimately outshooting the Kingers by an amazing 23-7 in the 3rd period and cashing in on 7 goals to seal the victory. 4 of those goals after Stout's ejection for his 4th penalty of the night, a lovely elbowing call to boot. Nothing says team player like one of your guys taking 4 penalties to get kicked out when you only have 4 guys skating in the first place. Of the 7 goals in the 3rd for Potter, Scotty Shaw added 2 goals and an assist; Gary Smith & Meyer each had a goal and an assist, "The Danimal" added a pair of goals and "Guillotine" Guilbault added a goal and an assist.

The Kingers did add their own goal with 30 seconds to go to cut the lead in half......10-5, by "Fire Ball" Fitzgerald.

END OF REGULATION: Potter 10, Storm Kings 5
