ODDS: | Kings by 4 goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 12.5 goals |
Two teams that really exploded last week. The Kingers beat the ever lovin' snot out of the Nordiques last week 12-4, while the Maple Leafs played their best game since joining the UVHL 4 years ago, by beating a highly potent Tuck team 7-2. Even still, I have to heavily favor the Storm Kings in this one.
GOALTENDING:
Kenny Lallier is a workhorse & a stud. He keeps his team in the game week after week but may not be ready for the puck movement from the kingers. Dan French, who is back in the UVHL after a 1 year sabbatical looked a bit rusty last week.....letting in a slap shot from center ice, but was more than good enough to get the win against an UGLY Nordiques team. It all depends on how many goals the Leafs can sneak past Frenchy.
OFFENSE:
Storm Kings all the way here. The Leafs are under powered and the Storm Kings move the puck like they've been playing together for years. Barker, Leroy & Cashman are a lethal pairing for the Kingers.
DEFENSE:
The Kings have that rough and tumble attitude on defense, behind Tommy Scull & Artie Stout. They will take the penalties just to make you think twice about trying to beat them one on one the next time around. The Leafs have a GREAT team defense strategy, but tend to be a bit slow footed in their own zone.
OVER ALL:
Storm Kings 8-4
Storm Kings bring the Leafs back down to earth with 7-3 whoopin
In the last game of the evening the Maple Leafs hosted the Kingers in an interesting matchup, the top team in the league versus the bottom.....but with the hottest goalie. Kenny Lallier has been amazing thus far, keeping his team competitive while they try to find their scoring touch. On the other end of the ice, local legend, Danny "The Eiffel Tower" French had returned to the trenches for the Kingers, making a huge splash in his debut .
The Kingers came out with some steam and tested Lallier early. Tommy "Ive never gotten a penalty I've deserved" Scull took the first statistical notable with a holding penalty that he didn't commit at the 12:11 mark of the first. Scully has something in common with all of the inmates in the US, he's always innocent. Frenchy was called upon early as he faced Todd "Nifty" Nallette on a breakaway early on in the penalty, but in pure Frenchy fashion he calmly stepped out and made the standing save. Sean "Smurfette" Casavante took hooking penalty at the 9:07 mark to prevent Robbie "The Price Is WRONG" Barker from walking in all alone after he stripped the smurf in his own zone. Greg "Loosy Goosy" Gosselin put the Kingers up 1-0 when he beat Lallier blocker side from the low slot. It only took 31 seconds for Ricky "Anger Management" Hughes to notch his 5th of the year when he beat Lallier high blocker side with a quick spin around shot from the slot. Robbie Barker scored the Kingers 3rd goal in just 1 minute and 9 seconds when he stripped the puck from Nallette, walked in and beat Lallier high glove with a quick snap shot from the left side of the slot.
Robbie Barker took a hooking penalty with 5:36 remaining putting the puck on Joey "The Mute" Hayes' stick on the power play. Hayes jammed home a rebound off of a nice passing play from Thomas & Smurfette. The Smurfs brought the game back within 1 goal on a Stuey Close turnover in the corner that made it's way onto Dougie "Light Weight" Heavisides stck at the face off dot. Heavy ripped a quick wrister that broke through Frenchy's stick Five-HOLIO. The Kingers Bobby Barker got his 2nd of the night & 14th of the season with a quick snap shot through a screen that beat Lallier high glove side and giving the Kingers a 4-2 lead.
END OF THE FIRST: Storm Kings 4, Maple Leafs 2
SHOTS: Storm Kings 12, Maple Leafs 9
Dean "The Dream" Cashman led off the 3rd period scoring at the 10:12 mark, when he took a nice pass from Ronnie Dupuis into the slot and fired a quick snap shot 5-hole through a screen to give the Kings a 5-2 lead. Mikey "The Frizz" Fitzgerald scored on his patented one timer snap shot from a tight angle after Robbie Barker had danced into the zone and fed him with a great backhander from the slot to the goal line to put the Kingers up by a cool 4 goals. The Leafs Eric "Guns" Gattie cut the lead in half after one timing a nice cross ice feed from Heavisides, from the low slot and past a diving Frenchman. The Smurf captain Sean Casavante took a roughing penalty with 58 seconds left for punching Deano Cashman in the face for a blatant slew foot. I was surprised because I have NEVER seen an angry smurf before, and it ruined my perfect world thinking that smurfs were always happy.
END OF THE 2ND: Storm Kings 6, Smurftown 3
SHOTS: Storm Kings 20, Smurfville 16
Barker scored a nasty goal to put the Kingers up 7-3 when took a pass from Dupuis in the corner into the slot, beat the defenseman CLEANLY, faked to the far post on Lallier. Kenny went down like a ton of bricks on that move causing Barker to pull back across the top of the crease and deposit the puck into the open net for the only goal of the 3rd period and with 6:01 remaining.
The rest of the period was pretty dull. No penalties, scoring or drama.
END OF REGULATION: Storm Kings 7, Smurfville 3
