ODDS: | Brewers by 1 goal |
OVER/UNDER: | 9 goals |
Battle of the BULGE will take place at 8:05pm on October 30th as the Tuckies host the Brew Crew at Union Arena in Woodstock, VT. I'm pretty psyched that I will be out of my uniform and able to sit back and watch this game.
Tuck (2-1-0) who has only allowed a league leading 6 goals against in 3 games will be tested as the high flying offense of Bayley's Brewers (3-0-0) ride into town. The Brew Crew has netted 17 goals in their 3 games, which is 2nd only to the Storm Kings 18 goals. While letting up a stingy 6 goals against for Tuck, Ryan Fitzgerand is protected by a stellar set of defenseman, and the 11 goals against that Bartline has posted is not shabby considering he let up 7 in the 9-7 scorefest against the Storm Kings in week 1.
We've got to well rounded teams head butting this week. Tuck is led by super stud ex-Harvardian WICKED SMAAHT KID, Scotty Turco and speedy / talented wingers Peter Hanbury & Adam Mantin. The Brewers have probably the most dangerous duo in the Upper Valley with Nicky "Dr. McSelfish" Bayley (7g, 2a, 9p) and Christian "The one man show" Isaac (2g, 1a, 3p in 2 games). Although, due to the incessant whining by one individual who REALLY wanted to play with Bayley.....C.J......the two stars were split up in the last game, which is probably one of the biggest mistakes I have every heard of.
The Brewers are also led by Beer Master Brian "Big Papa" Walsh, Mickey "Slew Foot" Hickey & Sean "The Natural" McCabe. Not to mention that they are powered by a NEW & SUPER SECRET beer from Long Trail Brewery....I heard it may contain....."The Clear".
I'll be in attendance for this one and I'd hope that a couple of other guys will be in the stands to watch this sure to be classic Men's League tilt.
Tuck gives Brewers first loss of the season in a shootout.
Man was I pumped to watch this game. It was a marquee match-up between two SOLID teams, top to bottom, fat to skinny, bad to good, Bartline to Turco. Tuck jumped out on top first after a roughing call penalty on Dan "The MASSHOLE" Charette. Burkhart blasted a point shot past Petey B. on a nice pass from Turco. A couple of minutes later, Sean "Offensively Inept" McCabe made his PATENTED end to end rush with a perfectly placed shot right into the pads of the goaltender......I had to get at least one jab in on McCabe this season! I have a bit of skating ability envy of McCabe, I don't think I've had an end to end rush when there were actually opponents on the ice.....EVER.
The Brew Crew weren't about to lay down and tallied two before the period was over. The first came on a power play from a Lindeman hook. Bayley made a great pass out of the corner to The MASSHOLE in the high slot beating Ryan "Another Frickin' Fitzy" Fitzgerald five-holio. Christian Isaac scored a nice goal 1:24 later as he broke into the zone all alone and cut across the front of the net. Fitzy made a nice save, but Christian regained the puck on the far side of the net and slid it in. The best part of the play came from Garren "Rutland's Finest" Poirier as he let a pass from Chris Adams go between his legs to a streaking Isaac, sucking in the defenseman as he faked like he was going to play the puck. End of 1st, 2-1 Brewers.
Tuck tied it up with 8:24 remaining in the 2nd period when Adam Mantin made a Dipsy Doo to turn Kevin "" Calder inside out and then hit a pass across the top of the crease to a wide open Greenthal for and open netter. Where was Barty? No Flippin' Clue! In the Corner? Crying? About being a Virgin? You'll have to ask him. End of 2nd, 2-2.
Tuck went up 3-2 when McCabe got beat on a toe drag from Trevor Martin, and then had his pocket picked by Mantin on the return pass before Mantin beat Barty-Boy Five-Higgity-Holioki-Doki. With 9:57 remaining Turco split a couple of defenders at the blue line and feathered a backhander to Greenthal who beat Bartlebee while he was being hauled down. Bayley managed to get two more in the last 6:15 of the game. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the two goals since I was collecting money from the DELINQUENT Storm Kings, but a source that wishes to remain nameless was quoted as saying "That was probably one of the nastiest goals that I HAVE EVER SCORED....shinny hockey, big games, any game!!!!" Apparently Bailey did "some sort of spinning pirouette jump thingy where he spun around like a ballerina and then did something else......I kind of didn't really see it" Sean McCabe said. So those two goals tied it up. End of Regulation, 4-4.
The Shootout went like this.
B: Bayley SCORED....probaby a nasty pirouette kind of goal.
T: Hanbury MISSED, probably going too fast.
B: Isaac MISSED, probably tried to make 53.5 moves.
T: Turco SCORED, probably 5-HOLIO on Bartholemew.
B: Adams MISSED, probably fell down.
T: Mantin MISSED, probably lost the puck.
B: C.J. MISSED, was probably thinking about his celebration.
T: Martin MISSED, Barty's snaggle tooth probably distracted him.
B: Walshy MISSED, probably had a minor heart attack.
T: Kennedy SCORED, probaby between the gaping hole.
