Maple Leafs SHOCK the world with a solid win over Tuck.
UPSET! Wow, the Leafs are starting to turn some heads. They dominated the Bruins in a 3-2 loss the week before and skated stride for stride with a very talented Tuck team for 45 minutes. Tuck set a new record in the UVHL with the highest shoulder pad to player ratio of 52%. We will have to check with local officials but this may be a regional record as well.
The first 10 minutes of the 1st was back and forth with good flow, but few shots. The Leafs finally broke through 10:53 seconds into the 1st as John "Thorn In Your Side" Thomas pressured a Tuck defenseman going behind the net who reversed the puck to a patient and waiting Todd "The Secret Hook" Nalette. Nalette faked behind the net and feathered a PERFECT pass to Colin Vernon in the high slot who then beat Ryan Fitzgerald on the ice near side. Less than 2 minutes later Nalette flipped a pass up the center of the ice to a streaking Joey "Quiet Riot" Hayes. Hayes made a great move on Fitzgerald, faking left...going right and sliding it in on his forehand past an outstretched netminder. All this while being hooked by two Tuckians. Takashi Mikoshiba cut the score in half with only 7 seconds left in the first after Peter "Pipes" Hanbury won a faceoff back for a one timer slap shot from the point.
The second period started off the same as the first until John Thomas made a SICK move heading down the right side boards, toe dragging around a defender, faking outside, pulling inside across the net and depositing the puck on the ice on the inside of the left post. Newcomer Josh Hardy put the Leafs up 4-1 as he walked in all alone and beat Fitzgerald far side on the ice.
Tuck came out and carried the play a bit in the third, feeling the desperation or feeling the embarrassment of losing 4-1 to the Leafs. Ben Kennedy scored 3:58 into the 3rd on a rebound from a Trevor Martin shot, not seeing the play myself, I asked Ben for a quote for the website where he calmly said "No Comment" and then probably muttered something under his breath like "Stupid Retard" or "Get a Life You Web Geek Loser". Steve Chang scored 8 minutes into the 3rd on a delayed penalty to the Leafs and as Kenny "The Natural" Lallier poke checked a loose puck right onto his stick instead of tying it up, to bring the Tucksters within 1 goal. But that is all they could muster as the Maple Leafs buttoned down their defensive zone, started taking shorter shifts and didn't over commit in the offensive zone.
