Storm Kings Continue to Roll with 6-3 win over tough Bruins on 1/30
This was a very even game until over halfway through the third period, and Avs goaltender Pete Bartline took one for the league by doing double duty in net for the Bruins with Hadley out of town and JT unavailable before the late game. The ageless Marty White scored 30 seconds into the game catching the Bruins off-guard on a goal assisted by Adam Hogg and Dean Cashman at 14:30. John Murphy went to the Kings box at 8:22 for holding, and the Bruins evened the game up at 1 apiece on the PP at 7:06 when Steve Gieger found the back of the net off a feed from linemate and fellow Castleton student Mike Rooney. Other than that, the first period was uneventful, except for fast skating, tough play and action at both ends! These two teams were working hard and they both wanted the win!
Bruins star power winger Matt Marrazzo tied the game with a beautiful unassisted goal and effort at 13:38 to start the second period, and other than some penalties, it was the only action on the scoreboard this period. Off-setting minors went to Marrazzo for holding and Kings D Tom Scull for interference at 13:10 as tempers escalated. The Kings went an important man down at 12:34 when Hogg was nabbed for hooking, but his teammates had his back on the PK and they killed off the B's attack. Then the Kings went to 4-on-4 for 30 seconds as B's D Scott Fraser took an interference minor while on the PP at 11:04, but the B's killed off the remaining 1:30 of Fraser's penalty, and the brief 14 second 5-on-3 the Kings had when Mike Harrington also joned Fraser in the B's box at 9:18 for slashing, plus the rest of the 5-on-4 the Kings had for 1:44. More frustration built after Kings D Artie Stout took a tripping call with 5:00 to go in the second, and then Rooney went to the box for the Bruins on a hooking call at 1:04.
These two teams entered the third period with the Bruins up 2-1, and the scoring started quick yet again with another unassisted goal, but this time it went to Kings superstar Hogg at 13:20 to tie it up. Hogg put the Kings up 3-2 at 10:22 from Cashman and Sean Coakley as their top line started to roll. Don Powers headed to the B's penalty box at 9:06 for interference, but his team and Bartline kept the Bruins in it and did not allow another Storm Kings PPG. This was still anyone's game until halfway through the third, but the Kingers continued their momentum and Stout solved bartline at 6:59 from Ron Dupius for the two goal lead. Hogger completed the Hatty at 6:08 from Coakley and it stared to unravel for the Bruins. Cashman found the back of the B's net, from Hogg with his 5th point of the night, at 5:49 and the top line was cruisin'! Rooney added another minor at 4:37 for tripping to his stats, and then got the final goal of the game at 1:45 from linemate Geiger, and that's how it ended.
