Tough Bruins force yet another OT game on 1/23 vs. Avs:

At least this one didn't go through 42 shooters until it was over! The last version of this match-up between the Avs and the Bruins was most likely a USA Hockey record for futility, and frustration. As you may recall, each line-up cycled through more than once until the final OT marker was tallied. As exciting as shootouts are, those in attendance were waiting for the misery to end. On this night the goalies were just as sharp, but this time no extra frames were necessary. JT, still feeling the effects of a concussion from a slapshot to the head the game before, was the brave athlete sucking it up in relief for Hadley in the Bruins' net. The word was spread by co-commish McD that if the B's didn't protect JT, he'd most likely leave the net unattended because he had no intentions of getting shelled. The Avs were also forewarned to keep the pucks away from his tender melon, or the very same might happen.

In fact, the Bruins continued their inspired and improved play, and they protected JT and played very well in front of him. this game ended up being a goalie's duel, and JT regained his vision and poise and matched Pete Bartline save for save. The Bruins struck first at 9:16, and it was a blast from the past who beat Dr. "Macaroni & Cheese" Bartline, just like the old days! Former Most Improved Sportsmanlike Player of the Year, Tony DeFelice, who had a huge scoring season in 2004-05, found the net past the tall and tough Bartline, fed by B's star and power forward Matt Marrazzo, and veteran Don Powers, who continues his hot scoring streak. That was the lone scoring play of the period.

In the second period, the Avs tried to even the score on the PP while B's stalwart D Scott Fraser was in the box for roughing at 9:58. JT rejected all attempts, and it wasn't until late in the period that the Avs tied the game. Nick Bayley finally solved JT from linemate Christian Isaac at 0:56 to enter the third period tied at 1 apiece. Avs F Chris Adams got nabbed for hooking at 14:39 of the final frame, but this time it was Bartline who came up with the heriocs in net, and the B's went back to the bench empty handed. With Steve Geiger in the B's box for hooking at 4:44, the Avs had their shot at ending it with the man-advantage during regulation, but the B's D and JT were in-sync, and the dynamic doctor duo of Canadian Kraft Dinner lovers got nothin'.

SHOOTOUT:

And so, hockey fans, we go to the shootout for the extra point after these teams played a hard, fast. clean game, both deserving of the regulation point.
