Potter and Leafs battle in tight scoring affair on 4/6
What a great Hockey Night in Hanover it was! Two great games, low scoring, anyone could have won AND beer and wings afterwards! Does it get any better that that? Well...only if they install poles in the locker rooms, but I digress yet again...this isn't Montreal or Vegas...yet. The Leafs and Potter entered the third period tied 1-1, who woulda thunk it? (that's my phrase of the day, eh). I didn't see the whole game, but what I did see of it was like this: best game of the year for the Leafs, solid effort by both teams, great goaltending, back and forth action and full benches for both teams. Awesome! The first was scoreless until the Leafs were called for Too Many Men at 4:54, penalty served by Kyle Manny, and Potter's intense superstar with barely any points this season, Dan McGee, FINALLY scored his first UVHL goal on the PP. McGee has been snakebit since he scored the Mud League Championship goal in sudden death OT to upset Murphy's and give Potter Construction the proverbial cup in 2005. McGee scored at 3:10 from Kevin Guilbault, who is creeping up the standings in the scoring race with his solid two-way play. In the second the Leafs were called AGAIN for Too Many Men (sounds like a Brokeback Mountain sequel, not that I saw the original, eh) in the second at 12:13, penalty served by Scott Leger, but they shut down Potter's attempts on their second PP. Jason Loomis tied the game for the Leafs at 5:26 from Scott Leger. In the third Will "Thrill Fire" Meyer added to his league leading point total scoring at 11:00 from linemate Anthony "Tuna" Shaw. Gilly went to the box shortly thereafter at 10:26 for tripping to give the Leafs their first PP, but Jake Obar continued his sensational play in net for Potter sealing the deal for yet another 1.00 GAA UVHL game to stay well atop the goalie leaderboard. Now on fire himself, and about frickin' time, Dan McGee scored his second of the game with 3:53 left to go to give Potter the 2 goal lead and the win from Gary Smith.
