Nordiques win in overtime thriller!
Although there were no statistics and the game did not count towards the standings, The face off between the Nordiques and the Storm Kings was a great game. The level of play was raised by the guest appearance of former Boston Bruin and NHLer Jeff Norton. Norton tallied three goals and 2 helpers in the contest. The Kings struck first on a Ryan Sinclair breakaway early in the first period. The Nordiques took a while to get going. The return of Poli Nightengale signalled the time to start scoring as he scored two goals in as many minutes to give the Nords the lead. The Kings tied the game in the second with a Norton blast dead-locking the contest at 2-2. Then something unusual happened. The Nordiques took over the game and scored 3 unanswered goals. If not for some timely great saves from Dan French, the Nords would have blown the game wide open. Norton scored on a one-timer making it 5-3 before the end of the second. The third period was all Storm Kings as the veteran squad with Norton's lead solved the Nords defense and Turner between the pipes, scoring 3 goals to giving them a late lead. Will Meyer fed Ian Cotes to knot the score at 6-all. The shootout featured some pretty goals and some great saves until Will Meyer beat Frenchy (FINALLY) for the game winner....(THANK GOD!)
