Tuck scores 3 period goal to beat Leafs 7-5
The late game was the most evenly matched game of the evening as the victor was in question until late in the third period. Tuck retooled and building on a solid game in a 4-2 loss to the Bruins a week early opened the scoring at 13:56 as Tim Weld beat Lallier on a wrister over the glove. Less than a minute later UVM grad Alec Roomet scored on a nice feed from Alex Tatum at 13:01. Doug Heaviside brought the Leafs within one at the 11:43 mark of the first. With Weld in the box for a hooking call the Leafs Kirt Johnson capitalized on a centering pass from Dave Fitts with 2:28 left in the first stanza. The first ended 2-2. Tuck and the Leafs battled for six scoreless minutes until Gary Hunter scored on an unassisted break. Another six minute scoreless drought ensued. Dave Fitts finally tied it up with 3:31 left assisted by Heavisides. Tuck edged ahead with a goal from Hunter at 2:25. The Leafs countered on Heavisides 2nd goal of the contest. (from Chris Grogan at 10:06) Tuck captain John Fox got on the scoresheet with an unassited tally of his own on a nice shot from the high slot through a screen. Justin Wing was whistled for hooking at the 4:16 mark of the third. Tuck cashed in on the advantage as Tatum scored the powerplay goal from Roomet. Gary Hunter put the icing on the cake with a nifty breakaway goal, changing direction and roofing a back-hander. With a 7-4 lead Tuck tried to coast to a victory with only 2 minutes remaining. Dave Fitts gained the zone and skated around one Leaf defender sending a snapshot over a fallen Meg Beker before time expired in the third.
