Tuck buries Leafs 10-1
Just when you thought upsets were in the air for everyone the Leafs laid an egg. They abandoned their frustrated and competitive goaltender Ken Lallier who has cause to quit after the brutal defensive effort his team put out in front of him thus far, and noone would blame him. The Leafs were recipeints of three 6-foot rookie defensemen to start the season in addition to UVHL veteran Kirt Johnson, no slouch himself, and the hardworking Sean Casavant, but to no avail. Goals are also hard to come by for the Leafs, but they should start by taking care of their own end first before scoring can be addressed. Tuck continues to gain momentum, and their scary offense just wouldn't let up. Tuck looked good in their new jerseys from Stateline Sports, and they even had extras for Chris Nichols and Brian Racicot who are on Tuck's UVHL roster (but aren't students there) showing their usual class as an organization, with the execption of Drew Crapser who decided to wear his own ratty green # 16 jersey, the same number as teammate Pat Fox so he could fuck up the game sheets and stats. Tuck started early, as usual (have you figured out a pattern here, yet?) with a goal only 27 seconds into the game on a Gary Hunter goal from captain Matt Waterbury and Pat Fox or Drew Crapser (both were wearing # 16...nice job Crapser!). The Leafs Ian Stevens took his first penalty of the game at 12:20 for holding and Tuck's Alex Tatum capitalized on the PP scoring at 11:52 from Crapser or P. Fox. Waterbury took a hooking mnor at 11:16, but that didn't stop Mark Hanrahan from getting a shorty at 10:01 assisted by Hunter. Hanrahan got a penalty for slashing at 7:17 and the Leafs tested Cote but couldn't score. With Stevens in the box for the Leafs again Tuck scored another PP goal at 0:33 with Alec Roomet making a guest appearance in only his second Tuck game from Hunter. Hunter fed Chris Nichols 12 seconds later to make it 5-0 Tuck at the end of the first. Waterbury got his second minor of the night on a bodycheck at 11:37 of the second, but Cote stood strong again in Tuck's net. Hunter gathered his 4th first assist in a row in Nichol's 6:28 goal, also assisted by Crapser or P. Fox (again). Which one of you was it, dammit? Stop wearing duplicate jerseys! Hunter finished his scoring with his sixth point of the night on an unassisted goal only 18 seconds after linemate Nichols scored. Stevens received his third penalty of the night and was sent home as per UVHL rules, and not without a pre-warning from ref Tony Gove to let him know that he had two penalties already and his third would eject him from the game, garnering a roughing minor with 2:50 left in the second. Stevens protested with expletives directed at Gove and was given a game misconduct and therefore an extra week to cool off. On the ensuing power play it was John Fox who found the net from Roomet and Nichols at 1:10. Tuck started the third period stats with a penalty to Tatum for interference at 10:09, but Tuck's Hanrahan scored ANOTHER shorty at 9:56 from Nichols. Tuck completed their scoring at 5:14 on a Racicot goal from Nichols and Tatum. Some players complained about the confusing colors between the squads going blue against green, but it didn't seem to be a problem for Tuck's connecting passes as they scored 10 unanswered goals before Anik Cote's shutout was spoiled with only 2:05 left to go in the game on a Dave Fitts goal from big D Dave Riley and forward Chris Gogan.
