When commisioner McDermott and I created the shootout to decide a game ending in a tie, I never thought it would come into action let alone so early in the season and so dramatically. Tao Smith of UVHL Silver picked up where he left of last week ringing one off the post and in behind the outstretched glove of Kenny Lallier just 0:28 seconds into the first. McDermott broke up an odd man rush to feed Kelly Park who found Poli Nightingale wide open in the slot who potted his first goal at 7:36. Red had its scoring chances but ended the first period down 2-0. With 9:46 left to play in the second Dave Willis scored to create a three goal cushion. Turners shutout streak ended at 26:34 as Mark Turco slipped in a rebound from a Dean Cashman shot. The 3-1 Silver lead carried into the third period. UVHL Red erased at the lead with goals by Scott Bishop and Marty Turco. With the score knotted up at three, Nate Beams looked to have given a hard fought win to UVHL Silver. Turco capped of his hatrick with only 0:22 seconds remaining. Bishop spun around the goal and dished to Turco on the near post who sent home the one-timer. With the game tied through regulation commisioner McDermott signaled for the shootout. Red's Dean Cashman moving in on Turner moved from right to left slipping a hard backhand off the post and behind Turner. Kelly Park tied the shoot out at 1 a piece with a nifty move that he roofed. Silver's Tao Smith and Red's Turco both scored on their shootout bids.Lallier and Turner then traded saves until Ben Robbins scored the eventual game winner. It doesn't get any better than this!
