In the second semifinal game of the night we had the 1st Lumberjacks hosting the 5th seed Nordiques. The Jacks come into this week off a bye as they finished with the top seed in the regular season and the Nords coming off a 4-3 OT win over Ramuntos. The Jacks have dominated against every team this year as they took three out of four in the regular season against the Nords. The game started with both teams exchanging chances but neither team could put the puck past the goalies tonight. The chances were pretty even as the Jacks goalie Zach Lary had 10 saves in the first and the JT finished with 8. The period would end with a score being 0-0 as play was very even.

In the second period the play continued to be very even as each team would get chances but neither goalie would allow for the puck to go by tonight. The games first power play was given to the Lumberjacks just five minutes into the second period but the Nords were able to kill it off and then the Nords were given a power play of their own. The Nords were not able to get anything past Lary on the power play and the score remained locked at zero. With 3:30 left in the period the Nords were able to break the scoreless tie as Stu Grande was set up in the slot and beat Lary with a high shot. A minute after going up 1-0 the Nords would take a penalty with 2:37 left but the Jacks were not able to get anything past JT as he was very strong in the second period. JT would finish the period with 12 saves and Lary would finish with 11. The period would end with the Nords up 1-0 heading into the third period.

In the final period it was very similar to the second as the Lumberjacks took a penalty with 11:46 left in the period; however the Nords were not able to capitalize to go up by two goals. After the penalty the Nords would keep the pressure on as they seemed to be the stronger team tonight. With both teams exchanging chances all period long it wasn"t until 2:46 left in the game that the Lumberjacks would tie the game on a no angle shot out of the corner from Gary Laperle that somehow beat JT short side to tie the game. Both teams would get a few chances in the final 2:46 but neither could find the back of the net to break the tie. This game would need a 4 on 4 five minute overtime to decide the game. Overtime was nothing new to the Nords as they won their Quarterfinal game against Ramuntos in OT last week.

In OT both teams sent out there starting 4 and the puck was dropped. Off the faceoff the Nords won the puck back to their defense and moved it up to the wingers. The wingers then tried to enter the zone but the Jacks defense didn"t allow and flipped the puck up the boards, the Jacks Jordan McGee picked the puck up in the neutral zone and then bob and weaved his way around the Nords defense. After beating the defense he put a deke on JT and tucked the puck past him to win the game for the Jacks just 27 seconds into OT. With the win it meant the 1st seed Jacks would move on and play the 2nd seed Tuck for the Whalen Cup finals next week.
