Dead River & Brewers = Penalty Fest

This should be an interesting game. Dead River (1-2-1) and the Brewers (1-3-0). Both teams have thrown defense right out the window at times in this young season. Dead River walks in with a DISGUSTING -17 goal differential through only 4 games, while the Brewers -12 is nothing to be proud of.

Both netminders, Dead River's Greg "The Fuzz" Feiden and the Brewer Matty "The Crow" Crowson, are solid goaltenders when their teams allow them to focus on their task at hand.

The Odds for this game would have been set at EVEN if it weren't the late one. Since the game will start after bedtime for half of Dead River, I'll say that DR won't have the firepower to hold of the Brewers.

Brew Crew wins it late, 6-4.

Brewers Hold Off Dead River, 3-2.

Two defensively challenged teams faced off tonight, as the 1-3-0 Brewers hosted the 1-2-1 Dead River squad. Both teams feature solid goaltenders who have had to fight for every save this year, but tonight it was all about defense & goaltending, resulting in a solid 3-2 win for the Brewers. It was a battle from the get-go with 26 minutes in penalties with the Brewers taking 7 of the 13 sessions in the sin bin.

The First period started out slowly with both teams focusing on defense, but a hooking penalty to Dead River's Ricky Golden "Showers" opened up the scoring. With Golden in the box, Jason "Interference" Yehle fired a harmless looking slapshot from the point that squeaked through Dead River's Greg "First Period" Feiden at 5:25. Feiden has earned his nickname with goals like this one....no offense Greg! The Brewers had to kill off a pair of powerplays in the last couple of minutes including 32 seconds of 5 on 3 hockey.

END OF THE FIRST: Brewers 1, Dead River ZERO

Dead River looked unprepared in the second period as the Brewers intensity started tilting the ice into Dead River's end. Feiden saw a ton of rubber in the middle frame and stood on his head to keep his team within reach. Chris "Doobie" Dubin was still able to put one past Feiden at 10:44 from Billy "The Kid" Fletcher and Brock "Lesnar" Barton.

Feiden came up HUGE with 4:46 to play in the period by shutting down the speedy and talented Dubin, as he broke in on a short breakaway from a perfect drop pass. Feiden flashed some leather to keep the deficit to 3 goals

Garren "Teed Penalty" Poirier extended the lead with 3:16 to play by tipping in a point shot from fellow blueliner Jason Yehle. What Poirier was doing in front of the net is beyond me. Poirier added to his stats late in the period by mixing it up with Dead River's Evan "Doogie" Duggan.

END OF THE SECOND: Brewers 3, Dead River ZERO

Dead River's offense had pretty much been non-existent through 2 periods. Crowson was forced to make some big saves, and Dead River threw a ton of shots at the net, but they had limited scoring chances. They started off the third killing two early penalties being shorthanded for 4 of the first 6 minutes but the Brewers took 8 minutes of penalties in the last 10:26 of the game. Ricky Golden scored Dead River's 1st goal on the powerplay from a nice backdoor pass by "Mean" Dean Cashman and added a second goal just 31 seconds later, tipping in a Tom "PIM KING" Scull point shot.

Dead River had chances in the final minutes as they had a 4 minute powerplay with back to back penalties from Billy Fletcher(Cross Checking) and Brock Barton(Roughing) starting at 5:25. Their power play fizzled under the calm and collected Brewers Penalty Kill, and the game ended with the Brewers 3-2 lead.
