Storm Kings strike early and often then hang on to win 10-7 over Brewers

The Brewers (7-6-2) faced off against the power house Storm Kings (11-3-1) in the middle frame of week 16. The Brewers have been on a roller coaster ride all season trying to find some consistency in the offensive zone. Their defense has been solid & goaltending from Petey "Captain Virginity" Bartline has been above par.

The Storm Kings are coming off of a heart breaking 3-1 loss to a surging Tuck team. Without league leading scorer, Robbie "Big Boy" Barker, the Kingers tend to be a different team. These are two evenly matched teams that play exceptional East to West hockey, utilizing the entire ice surface.

The Storm Kings flexed their muscles early in this one as Tommy "Am I really as cheap as Artie?" Scull found Robbie Barker up the middle all alone. Barker took the pass perfectly between the defense, walked in all alone on Petey "The Virginator" Bartline, threw his patented move called the "Back Breaker" on him which entailed a head shake, a hip rattle followed by shoulder shimmy and a looky here before a move to the back hand and a dish 5-Hole on Bartline just 1:34 into the game. Barker returned the favor to Scully 2:24 later when he found Scully splitting the defense. Scull took the puck made one move before firing a quick wrister 5-HOLIO on Bartline. The Scull & Barker show continued when Barker fed a perfect one timer from the near corner to the far post where Scull was waiting to put the Kings up a quick 3-0.

Ian "Gangster" Gill added the 4th goal with 6:59 remaining when his centering attempt went redirected off of a Brewer's skate in front and in. Robbie "The Price Is Right" Barker made it an uneven 5 with a shorty and pretty much the same move on his first goal but Bartline coved up the 5-hole, forcing Barker to put the puck around the pad and in for his 2nd of the night and 21st of the season. The Brewers did finally break through on Dan "The Eiffel Tower" French with 2:08 remaining on an amazing play by Christian "Tunnel Vision" Isaac as he flew down the far boards with the Kingers Artie "The Hook" Stout, made a nice move to cut to the center on Stout with a toe drag to his forehand and into the crease before throwing the puck back across the grain, along the ice far post.

END OF THE FIRST: Brewers 1, Storm Kings 1
SAVES: Bartline(Brewers) 9, French(Kings) 5

Robbie Barker continued his success against Bartline as he notched his hatrick just under 2 minutes in on a nice play where he out-waited Bartline, letting him go down to his knees as he faked behind the net, pulled to the front and threw the puck inside the near post. Under a minute later, Barker capitalized on a Brewers turnover in their high slot and ripped a snap shot through a screen off the cross bar and in to put the Kings up 7-1 with 10:17 remaining in the first. This is when the Brewers boo-birds sarted to bitch and whine, especially after a non-call on Artie "The Hold" Stout as he held onto Chris Adam's as he tried going behind the Kinger's net. The Kinger's didn't let up, as they went up 8-1 on ANOTHER breakaway, this time by Mikey "The Fugitive" Fitzgerald. Fitzy took a breakaway pass from Barker on the move at the Brewers blue line. Fitzgerald cut to his forehad across the crease and beat Bartline along the ice past an outstretched pad for his 8th goal of the year. At this point Barker had tallied 4 goals and 3 assists against a, generally, good defensive squad. Bartline was looking like a squirt out there letting up 8 goals on 25 shots.

The Brewers did happen to make a dent with under 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd and the short bench seemingly taking an affect on the legs of the Kingers. Nick "Dr. McSelfish" Bayley took a pass from Isaac in the offensive zone, made a sick toe drag around the King's Gosselin, and fired a quick snap shot from the slot past a moving French, all the while gliding backwards after the insane toe-drag. Danny "Mass-hole" Charrette put the Brew Crew's third on the board, just 21 seconds later as he escaped 2 Kinger's hooks in the slot, before cutting back to the front of the net and throwing it in along the ice past Frenchy.

The Brewers high was only short lived as the Scull / Barker connection teamed up with Gill for the King's 9th goal of the night and 1:21 remaining. Scull made a great cutback at the top of the near circle, found Barker back down at the face off dot. Barker made a move to the outside before firing a pass to Gill at the far side of the crease for the quick 1 timer.

END OF THE 2ND: Brewers 3, Storm Kings 9
SAVES: Bartline(Brewers) 22, French(Kings) 13

The 3rd period started out with the Brewers taking penalties out of frustration, and the Kingers taking lazy, exhaustion induced penalties. With 2 guys apiece in the box, the confusion began as the Kinger's Stout decided to leave the box early on a matching penalty, giving two many men on the ice for the Kingers. Play was stopped and the in typical Brewers fashion, captain Mike Hickey tried to argue his way into a 5 on 3 for the Brewers on because Hickey tried convincing the refs that Scull left the box early as well even though he was never caught for the infraction, if it did indeed happen.

The Brewers did capitalize on the power play with 9:56 remaining when David "Over the Net" Mullins found Sean "Muscles" McCabe on the back door all alone. Chris "Turtle" Johnson got his 5th of the season only 27 seconds later when he tipped in a slap shot from the captain, Hickey, making it somewhat of a hockey game.........at.....9-5. The Brewers continued to roll netting 2 more from Poirier t 5:24 and Bayley at 4:10 to bring the game back within 2 goals before Robbie Barker put an exclamation point on his night with his goal and 9th point of the night at 3:43. Barker's goal sent Bayley into a FRENZY from the penalty box, where he was serving a 2 minute high sticking minor on an infraction against the league villain, Artie Stout. Bayley garnered a quick 3 penalties, matching his season high before being ejected for running his mouth like a spoiled brat that didn't get that special present for Christmas.

With 12 seconds left, Tommy Scull walked in 3 on 0 with Fitzgerald & Gosselin against Bartline. Bartleby made 5 amazing stops as his team gave up on him with seconds to go.
