Brewers Mount Amazing Comeback With an 8 Goal 3rd Period.

All I can say is WOW. Holy CRAP! What a game. I had the pleasure to watch one of the most interesting games to ever be played in the UVHL. Let's start off by mentioning that the Storm Kings showed up with only 7 guys and had to steal an exhausted John Turner from the Nords to play net, just after saving 35 shots against Tuck......and the Kingers DOMINATED....I MEAN DOMINATED a good Avs club through 2 periods going up 6-1.

You can't find many teams out there that actually play better with fewer guys, but year after year, the Kings tend to have a problem finding guys that can commit to a full season and regularly have 7 or 8 players per game. Unfortunately, this took place in the first game of the season against a much younger Avalanche team who eventually wore down an exhausted Storm Kings squad.

The Kingers opened the scoring 2:47 into the game with a goal from Mike "The silent assassin" Fitgerald assisted by last season's assist leader, Dean "The Dream" Cashman. The Avs tied it up just 56 seconds later on a BEAUTIFUL breakaway by last years scoring champion Nick "Dr. McSelfish" Bayley. Bayley received a great pass from Al "Father Time" Sorrentino who went up over the glove of a stacked Turner. The Kingers turned it on after that, dominating the rest of the 1st period with an unassisted goal from The Cash and New comer Tim Leroy before potting 3 goals in the 2nd behind Barker, Fitzgerald & the old man Marty "Greybeard" White when Kevin "OneTimer" Calder whiffed on a one timer at the point, this gave White a breakaway beating Petey "THE REBOUND" Bartline mid-blocker with a wrist shot.

This is when the game got interesting. The Kingers started getting sloppy allowing odd man rushes and making bad passes. Chris Johnson capitalized on a beautiful cross ice pass in the Kingers zone by Nick Bayley that found a STREAKING Chris Johnson just above the face off dot on on the far side. Turner's only option was to 2 pad stack, but Johnson outwaited Turner, letting him slide out of position and deposited the puck far side on the ice.

The Avs started to POUND the Kings on their way to outshooting them 41 - 26. The Avs scored a record 5 goals in 3 minutes and 6 seconds behind goals from Johnson, Lyle, Sorrention, Poirier & Bayley......tying the game a 6.

The Kings bounced back with a great individual play by rookie Rob "THE PRICE IS RIGHT BITCH" Barker as he faked a shot on the right side of the net, forcing Bartline to commit to him and going down in a butterfly, Barker then took the puck behind the net and fed a wide open Cashman for an open netter. The Avs tied it up on a loose puck in front of the net as rookie Garren Poirrier potted his 2nd of the game.

The Avs continued to roll going ahead when Brian Walsh won a faceoff in the left faceoff circle back to Dan Charrette who BLASTED a one timer past a screen Turner. Nick Bayley put the game out of reach with 55 seconds remaining on by stealing the puck from Artie "The Hook" Stout and using 2 King Defenders as a screen and snapping one 5-hole on Turner.

The amazing thing about the game, which ended ina 9-7 win for the Avs, is that even though 16 goals were scored, both net minders played very well.
