Kings show just a little mercy 16-5 over Avs on Feb 7th

Fresh off a weekend win in Lake Placid (and looking wicked shaaap I might add in their new jerseys) at a USA Hockey regional tournament that saw the Kingers advance to the finals in Las Vegas (like there will be any hockey going on in Vegas, eh) superstar forward Ryan Sinclair didn't want any of it to go to his teammate's heads. So Sinclair won the opening face-off against Avs center Aaron Guyette and headed down towards his own goal and buried it past Frenchy at 14:51 to spot the Avs a 1-0 lead. Guyette got credit for the goal, but that was the only mercy the Kings would show during this contest. Sinclair evened it up at 13:19 from Tony Pippen and then 6 minutes of scoreless hockey ensued. Defenseman Tom Scull put the Kings up 2-1 off a point shot that fooled Beraldi in the Avs net on a screen assisted by Murf and Weber at 7:12. Coakley and Park assisted on Sinclair's second goal (for the Storm Kings) at 6:04. Dean Cashman scored at 3:15 with assists going to Sinclair and Coakley. Coakley got his first goal of the game only 18 seconds later from Cashman and Scull. Coakley and Cashman connected again 43 seconds later garnering assists on another Sinclair goal, his third of the period for the Kings at 2:14. The Avs finished the period with a goal at 0:38 with Guyette gettig a legit marker from John Brown and Mike Hickey to end the period 6-2 fo the Kings. Kelly Park got the first goal of the second at 12:48 from, guess who, Coakley and Sinclair. Avs forward Chirs Johnson received a tripping minor at 10:49 and the Kings capitalized on the PP at 9:23 on an unassisted goal by Cashman. Another unassisted Kings goal followed at 8:20, this time by defenseman Andy Weber. Coakley cashed in again at 5:28 from Park and Cashman with on the PP while Avs D Kevin Calder was in the box for tripping at 6:53. However, the Avs answered with a shorty at 4:59 on a beauty from the Speedy Swede Marcus Ericsson assisted by John Brown with his second assist of the game. Greg 'Goose' Gosselin was skating well this evening fresh off a break from injury, and he scored at 4:26 from his veteran linemates Nick O' Brien and Marty White. White was wearing one of two captain's "C's" on the front of his brand new Storm Kings jersey, the other worn by Rick Hughes. I can only assume that Marty is the captain for the veteran Kingers, like the Labatt 150 line, and that Ricky is the captain of the young gun Kingers. Whatever system they are running in the Kings locker room and bench it is working just fine. Since we are back on the subject, I must say how awesome and cool the lightning wielding viking-god inspired Storm Kings logo designed by our one and only super creative goaltender JT is. I hate to admit it, but these are now THE best jerseys in the UVHL, and credit is due where credit is due! Great jerseys JT & Frenchy! Caleb Hawley of the Avs was called for a bodycheck at 3:48 of the second, but the Avs held off the Kings attack and forced them into a penalty at 2:23 on a hook by Tony Pippen. However, neither team scored with the man advantage, but the period ended with yet another Sinclair goal with 10 seconds left from Park leaving it 12-3 at the end of two. After 9 minutes of scoreless hockey to start the third and offsetting minors to Hawley and Murf, it was Avs veteran Al Sorrentino getting an unassisted goal at 5:56. Calder found his way back into the box for another trip at 4:3 and the Kings capitalized again with Calder in the box, this time it was veteran co-captain Marty White from Gosselin and Scull. John Brown picked up his third point of the night for the Avs scoring with 1:46 left to go from Guyette and Calder. Finishing off the scoring was Cashman at 0:58 from Park and Coakley, and Coakley at 0:32 unassisted.
