Storm Kings spank UVHL All-Sucks

The team name has been officially changed. The former UVHL All-Stars have no business misrepresenting themselves as "All-Stars" and must revert to a Scrimmage Squad, or something of the like, to most accurately represent their level of play. Perhaps in the future when enough players are on board to ice a consistent line-up and develop a team strategy and style of play another competitive or tournament team from the UVHL will be born. Until that time the Storm Kings rule is not in question, and they are the only legitimate travel squad in the Upper Valley. The Kingers jumped out to a 7-1 lead by the end of the first period. Perhaps JT if might have shown up on time the UVHLers would have been ready, but they weren't. Even with players slowly filtering to the Storm Kings' bench over the course of the first 7 minutes of play the Kingers dominated against the 3 full lines of the UVHL squad. Kings forward and UVHL leading scorer Sean Coakley put a move on UVHL's fleet of foot defenseman Andy Holland to the left of JT that left him flat footed, and after going around Holland Coakley zipped a low shot over JT's right pad with a rare goal down low on the butterfly tender. Frustration set in for the UVHLers, and it almost got really ugly. After being hooked in the stomach in the neutral zone by John Murphy early in the second period UVHL Captain Shawn McDermott lost his cool and retaliated with a butt end to Murf's lower abdomen that was met with a spear to McDermott's stomach by Murf. Both players were ejected from the game by ref Tony Gove after some more pleasantries at center ice occurred. Fortunately, after things cooled off, McDermott went to the Storm Kings locker room and apologised for losing his cool and Murf was gracious and accepted and they shook hands, although neither player was particularly happy about the whole incident when all was said and done. Luckily the game continued to be clean and competitive after that point, but the outcome was never in doubt. Dan French had perhaps his best game yet in net for the Storm Kings, and definitely had his 'A' game stoning WIll Meyer at least 4 times with a left pad kick save and taking one off the melon from a Meyer howitzer. JT had absolutely no help in his own end from the UVHLers. Final score was 11-3 for the Storm Kings, and it looks like they will have no problem sweeping the 5-game series. McDermott easliy earns the L.V.P. award for the game for the momentary loss of cool and cheap retaliation, but to be fair Murf deserves an honorable mention for the stomach hook and retaliation of his own.
