The STREAK is OVER - White forces OT, Park scores OT shootout winner!

After a tough loss to Red last week White played by far their best game of the season in front of the solid goaltending of Greg Hadley. The acquisition of former NHLer Jeff Norton as an alternate player inspired White to "forecheck the hell" out of Silver, who could not get the puck out of their own end for the first 5 minutes of the game. Norton was an early season hold out, but signed a one game contract with UVHL White (reportedly for free skiing and beer). Kelly Park had a great night after a good skate sharpening at Stateline Sports, and started off the scoring in the first with hard shot on the ice that deflected off a skate beating Hadley with 3:20 left in the first on the PP. The smooth skating and puck control of Norton, who played a very gentlemanly game, allowed White to take the offensive and kept Silver back on their heels everytime White penetrated the zone.

Norton, trying to continue Silver's recent trend of squandering leads, scored 17 seconds into the second sending a hard wrister that broke off Turner's glove and into the top corner. Jon Gillespie pocketed his first goal in a Silver uniform late in the second on a slapper from the top of the circle to extend the lead to 2-1 at 1:29.

Amidst a two game slide UVHL Silver has squandered leads in the third period.

White continued to pressure Turner with chances into the third until he yielded the tying goal with 3:10 remaining on a nice rush by Mike Harrington whose backhander snuck inside the post past Turner's outstretched right leg. Hadley and his team ensured that regulation ended in a 2-2 tie ending their pointless streak giving them their first point of the season!

Overtime:

Silver's second overtime in a row, both times wasting third period leads, ended favorably as Turner turned away all comers, even Norton, except for Aaron Isabelle who scored on White's third attempt over an outstretched glove. Tao Smith, Silver's hardworking captain, scored on Hadley down low to make it 3-3. Kelly Park, sweating & nervous at the opportunity for a repeat breakaway debacle, ended his streak by potting the OT winner in the shootout, making it 4-3 Silver. White's fifth and final attempt ended the Cinderella comeback with a regulation tie. Congrats White for a great game! Congrats Kelly for the clutch OT game winner! The UVHL would like to extend a special thank you to Jeff Norton for his sportsmanship, class, and for gracing our league with his skills & presence last night. It was a pleasure to have you, Jeff, and we would welcome you back anytime, and are looking forward to more stories post-game at Bentleys!

Final Score: 4-3 Silver OT

Final Analysis: Look out for White's renewed confidence and forechecking game...Cinderella may be back in town again!
