Gamblers unbeatable, harpoon Whalers 12-4

What is there to say? I saw about half of this game and I was terribly bored with the skill, puck control, puck possession, and flurry of shots by the Gamblers. There were so many goals I didn't have time to write an account of them down before another one was scored. You'll have to go to the boxscore to get the full picture. I came into the game at the 11:35 mark of the second, and the Gamblers were up 7-0. Sub Ian Coates had a nasty backhander late in the period for a good scoring chance for the Whalers. The Gamblers looked like they were on a power play for the entire period.

In the third Lallier started it off with a nice save. Zach Aher went 5-hole on Condon off of a nice backhand pass from sub Jordan McGee at 6:43. Condon uncharacteristically allowed 2 goals on 4 shots, and Lallier let 2 goals on 8 shots get past him. A nice poke check by Tom Crapser at the blueline sent Kirt Johnson andhimself in 2-on-0, but Condon made 2 nice saves at 4:42. The MMA line connected at 3:30 for a goal to finish the scoring. Marc Gattie played some nice D at 2:45 sprawling to intercept a pass down low to prevent a back door chance. A nice fuckin' pass from Johnson to Jason Gramling for a breakaway was nixed by Will Meyer hustling back to apply pressure to Gramling to limit the scoring chance. Condon made the pokecheck on Gramling and Aher got off a shot with the loose puck, and then Condon made a left pad save. One has to admire Will's determination to deny a chance with heart and hustle with his team up 12-4. Condon finished strong making a nice save on Crapser at 0:43 after Coates sent him a long pass for a breakaway that was almost intercepted by Scott Fraser in the neutral zone.

Final Score: Gamblers 12, Whalers 4

Final Tally: Meyer had 7 points with 3G, 4A, and linemate Marrazzo had 5 points scoring 3G, 2A, and they both get POW nods this week. Topo LaCroix also contributed 2G, 2A, and Jason Young got 1G, 2A from the blueline. The Whalers Chris Gogan and Gary Laperle got 2A each, but sub Jordan McGee and forward Tom Crapser led the way for the Whalers with 1G, 1A apiece. Lallier faced 33 shots, and Condon faced 20, and neither goaltender will be happy with their GAA this week.

Final Analysis: At least the Whalers increased Condon's GAA to over 2 by scoring 4 goals, a well above average tally against the stingiest netminder in the UVHL. They must go to the bar with this small victory, and bury their defensive woes in drink. I won't take anything away from the Gamblers - they are an excellent team top to bottom. I'm just bored seeing them dominate every game... but that is what the A league is all about. Bring it, or get crushed. If you don't show up you deserve to lose... and the Gamblers are handing it to everyone week in and week out.

See you on the ice!
