Storm Kings flex muscles against Meyer-ful Maple Leafs.
The Storm Kings came into the Mud League season as current UVHL Co-Champions with Tuck as a Championship game has yet been played to determine who was the TOP DOG in 2007-2008. Potter on the other hand, has not had a regular skate in the past 2 years and it showed within the first couple minutes, but they seemed to work things out by the middle of the 2nd period as they went on to outshoot the Kingers 30-28 and outscored the Kings 4-2 in the last two frames. Both goaltenders were SOLID, coming up with huge saves to keep their teams in it. Dan "The Eiffel Tower" stood tall in the first two periods making some amazing saves.
Both teams were sporting some new additions to their teams. Potter welcomed Anthony "The Goper" Shaw's brother Scotty as well as crafty young winger Scott Davis and Dougie "Light Weight" Heavisides in addition to the return of Upper Valley superstar Will "The Weasel" Meyer. The Storm Kings picked up a homeless.......er teamless, Matty "the Milkman" Marrazzo, who always delivers the goods.
Potter started the first with some SLOPPY play as the Kinger's capitalized on TWO Potter turnovers leading to breakaway goals on Kenny "The Pimp" Lallier. The first goal was scored by Ian "Gunner" Gill as he broke into the zone and beat Lallier with a WICKED wrister top shelf. "Tiny" Tim Leroy finished off the 2nd breakaway just 6 minutes in with a nice move to his backhand. The Kingers added a 3rd goal with just 46 seconds to go with a Leroy to Barker goal to give them a comfortable 3-0 lead.
END OF THE FIRST: Storm Kings 3, Potter ZERO
Potter started the scoring in the first with a Scotty Shaw goal at 11:35 from a Heavisides pass to finally put Potter on the board. The Kingers bounced back with the remaining two goals of the period with a Dean "The Mean Machine" Cashman goal, which was probably a rebound off of a Marrazzo shot at 7:05. The other KInger's goal was Timmy Leroy's 2nd of the game.......assisted by Bob "The Price is WRONG" Barker & Fitzgerald.
END OF THE SECOND: Storm Kings 4, Potter ONE
Potter jumped out in the 3rd after downing 3 cases of Red Bull and really turned the heat up, tilting the ice down hill towards Dan French. They pressured the entire 3rd period and clawed their way back within a goal with a Willy Meyer goal at 10:31 unassisted. Scotty Davis finished a Anthony Shaw pass with 8:45 to go to bring the Potterians within 2 before Scotty Shaw scored the final goal of the game with 6:57 to go. The last 7 minutes were played with defense in mind for the Kingers and desperation for Potter.
