Tuck Returns...throttle Jacks

Tonight's first game sees Tuck's(3-3-0) return from a 5 week winter break to take on the Lumberjacks(5-4-0). The last time these two teams played the Jacks throttled the Tuckies 4-0 en route to an easy win, but a well rested Tuck team came ready to play.

It only took 82 seconds for the Lumberjacks to jump out to a 1-0 lead when Andrew Miraldi found Dillan Pierce backdoor and just out of the reach of the very quick Lindsay Holdcroft. The two teams battled back and forth in a well-played chess match for over 8 minutes before Tuck struck with their own backdoor play when Andrew Sheridan found John Fulham. Tuck rolled with the flow only 21 seconds later, when Brodie Stone split the defense and beat Ryan "Gumby" Libby with a backhander back across the grain. Beautiful move and an even better finish. The period ended with Tuck holding a 2-1 lead, Libby making 10 saves and Holdcroft only required to turn 7 shots aside.
END OF THE FIRST: Lumberjacks 1 - Tuck 2

The second period continued to see some excellent back and forth play with both Libby & Holdcroft coming up big, the biggest was an impressive tic-tac-toe play by the Lumberjacks only to have Holdcroft come across the crease like Carey Price for the toe save just over 3 minutes into the period. Tuck also rang an early post and crossbar, much to Libby's pleasure but Libby couldn't stop an Andrew Cox balst from the hight slot just under his arm, giving Tuck a 3-1 lead with just over a minute to play in the second period.

END OF THE SECOND: Lumberjacks 1 - Tuck 3 (Saves: Libby 19, Holdcroft 17)

The Lumberjacks started to turn up the heat in the third looking to get back into this game but Stone took advantage of a collision at the blueline that sent the Lumberjack's weak side defenseman to the ice. Stone turned the corner on the strong side defenseman and cut through the slot, beating Libby with a hard backhander five-hole as he traversed the crease. Just like the first period, Tuck struck again just 42 seconds later when Gillian Apps jammed home a rebound off a Nick Hunnewell shot.
With nothing to lose the 'Jacks continued to press and Lindsay "Steady Eddie" Holdcroft made a beautiful breakaway save on Tim Patton with 8 minutes to go and threw aside another hard shot labeled for the top corner with a waffle save.

At the end of the day, Tuck was just the better team than the Lumberjacks. Their puck movement was exceptional and efficient.
